A Farm School Aiming To Point The Future Of Tomorrow In The Right Direction
Little Arrows Farm School was born from the desire to ensure children have a space to interact with nature, explore freely, and find self-worth in their abilities to accomplish tasks on their own. In a world where backyards are getting smaller, screens are dominating and kids are disconnecting from nature the need for a space like Little Arrows Farm is more apparent than ever. Richard Louv's book " Last Child in the Woods" is a wonderful example of how "exposure to nature is essential for healthy childhood development and for the physical and emotional health of children and adults. "
We believe there is no better way for children to build their self-worth than by giving them the opportunities to succeed AND fail. Therefore, at Farm School children will be involved with our daily farm tasks and overcome daily challenges. We believe in being diligently supportive of their efforts, even when they may not be the biggest fans of the task at hand. However, it is these moments of frustration and then accomplishment that create the foundations to which our children begin to realize their true strength. I CAN do hard things!
At Farm School we will work on age-appropriate academic activities however we believe in preparing them beyond just academics. Playing outside helps with cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being. We believe that in these moments of play and social interaction, we can truly help prepare a child for the future ahead of them.

Children will be faced with challenges and uncomfortable situations here at the farm. Our weather is not always warm and sunny, doing farm chores is not always fun and doing hard things is, well....hard. Therefore, the children will learn firsthand that they are capable of overcoming uncomfortable situations. We want to instill in the children the positivity and strength that comes from persevering from these moments. The age of these kiddos means that this can be found in the simplest of tasks, from finally getting your coat on by yourself to being able to carry a bucket of feed all on your own.
We believe that encouraging a child to first try to solve a problem on their own before having an adult intervene will again build their self worth but will also show them they are capable of more than they think. Teachers will guide by providing the words they need or a tool they are missing but then we will allow the child to use those words or tools to overcome the situation.
Children will be assigned daily farm chores. We will set the expectation of what is to be completed and discuss with the children the importance of completing these tasks to the best of our abilities. Instilling a strong work ethic skill from a young age will not only help them become great students but also, great people.
Farm school will allow children to enhance their critical thinking skills. We believe in providing an environment where we can have open discussions on the choices the children are making as well as on issues that arise on the farm. Do we think chasing the rooster is a good idea? What do you think is wrong with the tractor? Is taking the toy the best way to get to play with it? How should fix this broken fence?
At Farm School there will be daily conversations on how to be prepared for the day ahead. We want the children to begin to take accountability for making sure they have what they need to be successful. This means discussing what clothing should be worn so they stay warm, what tools may be needed to complete a farm chore or even what tasks can be done at home to make sure they are ready for farm school.
Farm school allows for many opportunities for children to work together on activities and overcome challenges.
Children will be able to work on their fine and gross motor skills with use of age-appropriate tools and materials. This can vary from pencil holding to finding balance as they walk across a log.
